He is the promoter of a new creative model for art criticism and has authored definitive works on Mannerism, the classic avant garde and neo-avant garde art movements. He has also staged thematic and interdisciplinary art exhibitions. His publications include Vita di Marcel Duchamp; L’ideologia del traditore; La transavanguardia italiana e internazionale; Superarte; Oggetti di turno. Bonito Oliva has curated many exhibitions including Contemporanea, Aperto 80, Avanguardia transavanguardia, Arte e depressione, Minimalia and currently on show at P.S.1/New York in where it is being hailed as a success by critics and the public. He directed the 45th Biennale of Venice.
