This Jonathan Glazer–directed advert for Sony’s Bravia range of televisions drew complaints to the ASA because it was thought to be a “disturbing” reminder of the September 11 attacks. In response to the complaints, Sony and the agency responsible, Fallon, stated that the advert was shot under safe conditions, pointing out that the housing estate featured was empty and due for demolition, and that the paint used (which amounted to 70,000 litres) was non-toxic. However, the complaints, which objected to the use of images of "exploding" buildings in the post-911 “climate of terror”, may result in a formal investigation of the ad by the ASA. |
