The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) refused to clear these posters for the film Saw II. According to the Association, the depiction of dismembered fingers meant the posters failed to comply with its Advertising Administration standards.
The MPAA ordered the studio to have the offending posters withdrawn from distribution, saying: "It is essential that film distributors comply with the rules of the Advertising Administration so that parents retain the confidence they have in the ratings certified by CARA (the Classifications and Ratings Administration of the MPAA) and that advertising and publicity material associated with rated films is appropriate for all audiences."
